How do I get rid of freon?

Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers contain freon. These units cannot be disposed of unless a qualified technician has removed the freon and has certified that the freon has been removed.  You have three choices for removal if you have one of these units:

  1. Call Waste Management. For a charge of approximately $75 they will remove the item from the curb at your residence.
  2. Take the item to an appliance store that is certified to remove the freon.
  3. Bring the item to the Spring Clean-Up Day in May for a small charge.
