Recycling

Recycling is mandatory for all residents and commercial businesses.  Burning of garbage, recyclable items and/or leaf waste is prohibited. 

Curbside Recycling

For residents, curb side service is available through Waste Management by calling (814-825-8588) to make arrangements.
  • Monday pickup - residents south of Route 20
     

  • Wednesday pickup - residents north of Route 20

Recyclable items are picked up on the same day as curb side pickup.  Blue recycling bins are available at the Township Office, 7471 McCray Road, at no cost.

Recycling Program

Fairview Township residents can now enjoy SINGLE-STREAM RECYCLING. All of your recyclables can be placed together in the same bin. No sorting required! 

The following can be placed in your recycling bin:

  • Aluminium, steel and tin food & beverage containers
  • Clear & colored glass containers
  • Newsprint-if it comes with the paper, it can stay with the paper
  • Kitchen cardboard – cereal, cake boxes, pudding, pancake boxes
  • Papers – construction, printer, computer & copy
  • Junk mail
  • Magazines & Catalogs
  • Corrugated cardboard – flattened & no larger than 4 ft.

  • PLASTICS #1 THROUGH #& includes milk bottles, water bottles, soda bottles, laundry products, cleaning products, plastic grocery bags, shrink-wrap packaging, medicine bottles, personal care containers butter, cottage cheese, yogurt, Jello & pudding containers.

    Please remove food debris from containers. Labels do not have to be removed. Lids should be removed from containers, but can be placed in the recycling bin.

  • NOT ACCEPTED

  • Wax coated paper or wax coated cardboard
  • Any items with food debris
  • Batteries
  • Styrofoam of any kind
  • Unnumbered plastics
  • Household items
  • Hazardous or toxic substances
  • Aerosol cans

Burning Regulations

Your hauler picks up 99% of all of your household waste, recycling, leaf and yard waste. There is no need to burn. It is illegal by PA Law (Act 101) and Fairview Township Ordinance No. 2007-3 to burn anything that must be recycled or composted.

Bag Service

You will be amazed at how much more recycling you can now remove from your trash with the new recycling service. If you have a small family and put out a little amount of trash, please call the recycling office (474-5942) for a money-saving program that is being offered

Compost and Leaf Waste

Millfair Compost and Recycling Center
The Millfair Compost center at 2301 Millfair Road is open six days per week for your convenience.  Leaf waste will be accepted in the green biodegradable bags.  Shrubbery, brush, tree trimmings, etc. should be brought in free of bags and bindings.

Any leaves that are in containers other than green biodegradable bags must be emptied out of the containers at the designated composting area.

The Center will be open during the following hours until late November.  After this date, additional hours will be posted at the gate if needed.

NO GRASS will be accepted at this site.

Green Biodegradable Bags

Green biodegradable bags must be used for all leaf waste.  Place them at the curb during the following scheduled pick-up weeks.  Green biodegradable bags in packages of 10 are available for purchase at Fairview Hardware and Weislogel's Shur Fine Food Mart.  For leaf pick-up at the curb, they must be in green biodegradable bags,  Leaf waste is the only thing to be placed in the green biodegradable bags.
